TITLE: Safety and Security Officer
CLASSIFICATION: Defined Specialist
SALARY RANGE: Negotiable
SUPERVISOR: Executive Director
DEFINITION:
This is work involving the responsibility
for the security and safety of the Authority's facilities located on
Coliseum Boulevard and other offices as determined by the Authority.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Responsible for locking and unlocking
buildings and setting or turning off alarms when needed.
Routinely monitor grounds and facilities
for unsafe conditions.
Assist with persons out of control.
As assigned by supervisor, investigate
situations related to security and/or safety issues in the workplace.
Conduct routine fire drills.
Routinely check fire extinguishers and
fire alarm systems to ensure they are in working order.
Participate in training activities related
to security, safety, dealing with aggressive/assaultive behavior,
dealing with persons with serious mental illnesses and others required
by the Authority.
Train staff on safety and security issues
as well as other areas assigned.
Responsible for ensuring MAMHA owned
vehicles are serviced as required.
Serve as back-up to switch-board operator.
Serve as courier between buildings.
Complete reports and paperwork as required
by the agency.
Perform related work as assigned by
supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to remain alert and act quickly
and use good judgment in emergencies.
Ability to firmly, but tactfully, deal
with consumers, staff and public.
Ability to function under stress, to
include maintaining one's composure and controlling one's emotions or
temper.
Ability to give others clear instructions.
Sufficient strength to perform a variety
of lifting and security related measures.
Willingness to go to other offices of the
Authority in a four county area as required by supervisor.
Ability to train others in safety and
security issues.
Ability to read and follow instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively
verbally and in writing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate or equivalent with
two years experience in law enforcement, security or related field.
